About

I'm Arian — a software engineer based in Forest Hill, here in Toronto. I studied computer science, but most of what I actually know about building software I learned by shipping things and watching real people try to break them.

I work across the whole stack, from Python and C++ to TypeScript, React, Flutter, and Node. I'm happy moving between a database schema and a front-end detail in the same afternoon, and the part I enjoy most is the messy middle: taking something from a vague idea to a thing that runs in production and survives contact with users. Most of my projects started as a problem I had and didn't want to keep having.

A couple of those projects turned into pitches. I made the case for Walnut, an AI classroom platform, to a fund in Dubai, and for Nestd, a rental marketplace for the GTA, to investors closer to home in Toronto. Selling an idea out loud teaches you things about it that no code review ever will, usually that the hard part was never the engineering.

Away from the keyboard, I play chess (badly enough to stay humble, seriously enough to check my rating more than I'd admit) and tennis, which is where I do my best thinking. I follow markets and trading closely; I find the incentives and the psychology as interesting as the numbers. And I read a lot, mostly fiction and philosophy. The books that have genuinely changed how I think are on my reading list.

Right now I'm looking for a software engineering role in the Greater Toronto Area. If you're building something and want someone who'll take a feature from the whiteboard to production and own it the whole way, I'd like to hear from you.
